Privacy
The short version: I collect only what I need to answer you and to see which pages are useful. No cookies, no ads, nothing sold, and you can ask me to delete your information at any time.
Who I am
This site belongs to Ryan Yarali, a web developer in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. I'm responsible for the personal information collected here. Questions or requests: ryan@ryanyarali.com.
What I collect
When you send the contact form
Your name, email address and message; what it's about, any add-ons you picked and who referred you, if you say. To stop spam I also keep a scrambled, one-way code made from your internet address (not the address itself) and a code for your visit that day, which lets me see which pages you looked at before writing.
When you visit
Anonymous page views: the page, the site or link that brought you here, your approximate city and country (from Cloudflare), whether you're on a phone or a computer, and how long the page was open. Each visitor gets a code that changes every day, so a visit can be counted but you can't be followed from one day to the next. I don't store internet addresses and don't use cookies. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted at all.
On your device
Your browser remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. That stays on your device and never reaches me.
The bot check
The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It looks at your browser, not at you, and Cloudflare handles it under its own privacy policy.
Why
To reply to you, prepare a quote, apply a referral discount, and understand which pages people find useful so I can improve them. I never sell your information, use it for ads, or add you to a mailing list.
Who handles it for me
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores messages and visit counts.
- Resend sends the confirmation email and my replies.
- Telegram delivers new messages to my phone.
- IONOS hosts my email inbox.
These companies may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to local law.
How long I keep it
- Messages: up to two years, then they're deleted automatically. If you become a client, I keep what's needed for the project and for business records (the Canada Revenue Agency asks for six years).
- Visit counts: thirteen months.
- Unsent reply drafts: seven days.
Your choices
You can ask to see the information I have about you, correct it, or delete it. Email ryan@ryanyarali.com and I'll answer within 30 days. If you're not happy with how I handled it, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If this changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
